Wow, I can't believe today is the last day of 2016! This year has been a crazy wild ride and I feel so lucky to have shared it with my bold, rebellious, and creative wedding planning clients. My wedding planning adventures have taken me all the way up to the Sequoias in the Santa Cruz Mountains, through the sleepy wine towns (North of Santa Barbara) in Los Alamos, and down into the boulder coves of Joshua Tree. I have planned, designed, and/or managed magical weddings in amazing locations; including a forest, a motel parking lot, private estates, an avocado orchard, the high desert, and in some of my favorite Southern California wedding venues. I feel so fortunate to have worked with amazingly fun couples, that have style for miles, and that appreciate my non-traditional approach to wedding planning.
I couldn't have pulled off these events without the support of my incredible vendor teams. To see full credits for each couple, please visit my main gallery page or click each couple's name below.
January started off the year with Stephanie + Raul's retro inspired elopement. They have a love of all things vintage and the Culver Hotel and the Beverly Hills Civic Center were the perfect wedding setting. Stephanie wore a curve-loving black wedding dress (the "Monica") from Pinup Girl Clothing. Miss Rockabilly Ruby and Erika Reno were the dream retro glam squad and Stephanie was the ultimate vintage bride.
I co-sponsored the gay-friendly & guy-friendly Lovesick Expo hosted by Lovesick Inc. and Offbeat Bride! I found an old church in Hollywood and we hosted a large group of unique Los Angeles Wedding Vendors!
I planned and designed a styled boho elopement in Ojai with real-couple, Savana + Jake. The charming patio of Tipple & Ramble and the blooming fields of Ojai were our playground. We featured a charcuterie spread, a guitar serenade, spring florals, and a fresh fruit tart. Featured on 100 Layer Cake!
Desiree & Carlos had a stylish and intimate dinner party wedding at Palihouse West Hollywood. It was one of the only days in April that it rained so we went into rain plan execution mode. It was a beautiful ceremony and all of their guests stayed warm & dry. D + C dressed to impress and their guests enjoyed a multi-course family-style dinner.
Evan + Evangeline's cosmic wedding under the stars was hosted at a private estate in Encino. We designed the wedding from the ground up in this magical setting. The ceremony was in a secret garden with a beautiful moon and garland altar. All of their guests wore white and they dined family-style at a dramatic and romantic table surrounded by twinkly lights. Next, we headed to Malibou Lake Mountain Club for Teal + Drake's wedding. They had a timeless and romantic color palette, amazing florals, and their dance party was so much fun!
Courtney (Blogger @ Pretty Little Fawn) + Eric were the first to be married at The Riverbed Farm in Anaheim. The organic vegetable farm has an airstream on site and it was the backdrop to their laid-back, macrame, vintage inspired wedding. They served grilled cheese sandwiches, had a few local beers on tap, and a vegan donut bar from Donut Snob. Featured on Green Wedding Shoes!
Kimmy + Nathan planned a weekend wedding getaway in June in the hip little town, Los Alamos, at Shelter Social Club's, Alamo Motel. They had the most beautiful vegetarian appetizer spread I have ever seen topped off with fresh flatbreads, salads, and a dessert bar. Their guests partied their butts off to the tunes of Dart DJ.
My next project was planning and designing a shoot for the new DTLA Arts District Wedding venue, Seventh Place. I had the honor of collaborating with some of my favorite Los Angeles creatives to pull off our moody cocktail-party inspired wedding. Our gorgeous real-couple Nisha + Brandon brought all of their steamy chemistry to our shoot. Featured on Green Wedding Shoes!
Tala + David's ceremony was held at Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, which hosts an incredible 180-degree view of Los Angeles. Their eclectic reception was held at SmogShoppe in Culver City and their guest were all treated to a family-style dinner catered by the foodie favorite, Ledlow, and a Coolhaus ice cream sandwich bar.
Rachael + Rebecca were married at the Ebell Club of Long Beach, an architectural gem! Their love filled up that two story ceiling and they had a beautiful and traditional.ish Jewish ceremony. Rebecca's surprise dance for Rae and their Tres LA dessert bar were two of the standout moments.
Liz + Wes had the coolest jungle wedding inspired by their awesome DTLA venue, Millwick. Their guests danced the night away while the big screen played the most epic dance montage of dance scenes from their favorite movies!
Jeaneen + Ben were married at Chateau le Dome at Saddlerock Ranch. The view of the vineyards was a super romantic backdrop and the guests danced the night away under the stars!
Betty + Jonathan's magical Woodland Wedding was at the Sequoia Retreat Center up in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The ceremony was surrounded by massive sequoia trees and the reception was on the sprawling patio of the lodge. They had a live string quintet that played throughout the day and a surprise belly dancer.
Sara + Dana were married in the Joshua Tree National Park and their reception was at 29 Palms Inn. We had multiple lounge areas for the guests and a romantic dinner on the lawn. The Old Fashioned Caravan served up cocktails and A MIHO Experience gastro truck served a delicious dinner and fresh churros.
Heather + Mito got married in the high desert above Joshua Tree in Yucca Valley, at a private estate called The Talawahee! I designed this wedding at the base of a boulder cove. We lovingly referred to the wedding design as a Glam Wedding on Mars! We brought in power, bathrooms, and built a kitchen amongst the brush. We created a romantic and dramatic dinner reception with multiple lounge areas, string lights, and solar lighting installations.
Leigh + Ben's almost Halloween wedding was at Quail Ranch, an avocado & citrus orchard in Simi Valley. Their sweet rescue pug Milton was by their side and they were married in front of a massive tree. They had a delicious dinner and one of the most exciting Kettel Glazed donut bars that I have ever had the pleasure of managing.
Tobi & Gina had a super fun and quirky wedding at Smog Shoppe in Culver City. Their wedding party surprised their guests with an acapella processional tribute to the brides! Olive Wood Pizza fired fresh flatbreads, Bottega Louie provided fresh tarts, and Dart DJ kept the dance floor rocking.
We wrapped out the year with Sarah + Michael's brunch wedding at Smoky Hollow Studios! We had a high-tea inspired menu, a chalk wall interactive guest book, a caricature artist photo booth, and a Nerf gun fight!
It has been a truly amazing year and I can't wait to see what 2017 has in store for Art & Soul Events. Thank you to all of our couples that chose Art & Soul Events to plan, design, and manage their weddings. Your wedding is a BIG DEAL, and we are so honored to have played a role in it!!
Thank you to my sweet wedding planner friends Claudia, Tina, and Nikki for assisting me when I needed an extra hand. It's so nice to be able to count on a pro when needed.
Thank you to my husband, Hector for, putting up with my crazy schedule. The early mornings, the late nights, and the neverending emails meant time away from him (and Jordan), but he believes in my dream and continues to love and support me and help me be my best. Looking forward to more family fun in 2017!!
Happy New Year!!
